Carol Torres named warden of North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women
Carol Torres has been named warden of North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women.
Warden Torres is a thirty-year NCDAC veteran who most recently served as warden at Anson Correctional Institution, which houses women in medium and close custody in Wadesboro.
She began her career at Sandhills Youth Center in 1996 as a correctional officer and later served as a drill instructor sergeant for the IMPACT boot camp program. In 2003, she was promoted to sergeant at Harnett Correctional Institution and later served there as a lieutenant. At Scotland CI, she served as lieutenant and captain, then later as the regional security coordinator for the South Central Region.
As warden at NCCIW, Torres will oversee the daily operations of North Carolina’s largest and most complex prison for women. It houses more than 1,200 women and provides a variety of security, programming, education and rehabilitative services. NCCIW’s medical center is the main provider of medical and mental health services for female inmates in the state prison system. It’s also home to Correction Enterprises sewing and license tag plants, a Braille shop, and the state’s travel and tourism call center.
